Ride in Kyushu Day 8 (23/12/18) Part 2 Yoshinogari Historical Park 吉野ヶ里歴史公園

北部九州に特有の甕棺を用いて埋葬していた。吉野ヶ里では約15,000基を超える数がsると考えられている。この場所は甕棺墓の間隔が狭く沢山埋葬されている事、副葬品がない事から一般人の墓と考えられている。

The burial jar is a distinctive type of coffin found only in the northern part of Kyushu. A body was bent into an unglazed jar and then the jar was buried in the ground, which seems to have been a popular means of burial for about 200 years, during the middle of the Yayoi period. Approximately 15,000 jars are supposed to have been buried in mounds in Yoshinogari. Among them, over 2,000 jars are buried in a 600-meter long row on both sides of the path in the middle of the northern mounds. (The path is thought to have been a way to visit the graves or a line to separate them by ranks.) People at the time seem to have paid homage to the deceased.

歴代の王を埋葬していると考えられている。人工的に造られた丘の中に、14基の甕棺が見つかり、ガラス製の管玉や有柄把頭飾銅剣が一緒に収められているものがある。このことから甕棺墓列とは異なる身分層の墓と推定できる。この後、弥生時代が終わり、古墳時代に入り、巨大古墳が現れる。

These burial mounds are thought to be the resting places of successive generations of Yoshinogari rulers. These are artificial mounds piled in layers of different kinds of soil and very strong in structure. 14 burial jars were found in the mounds; one of them kept glass beads and an elaborate-designed bronze sword. These burial mounds were made and used in the middle Yayoi period, 1 B.C. But they were not used as tombs afterward, and it is believed to have been a resting place of ancestral spirits.

ここは商業と海外(朝鮮や中国)との交易を行う重要な場所。この地域全体が大きな壕で厳重に囲まれて、兵士も常駐していたと考えられる。交易品を保管する倉庫や、管理棟、商談場所など、市場としての基本的機能が組織されていた。また、交易を通しての文化の吸収が次の時代に進む大きな要因だっただろう。今まで弥生時代に対するイメージはののどかな農村村を持っていたが、ここを見て随分とイメージが変わった。思ったいた以上に発達していた。無いのは教育設備だ。これはもう少し後に現れる。この時代にはあまり興味が無かったのだが、結構、面白い。展示会で係の人と話をした時に、興味あるならと言って、魏志倭人伝の現代語訳の小雑誌を渡してくれた。読んでみようと思う。

This area is believed to have been Yoshinogari's commercial center, featuring a large market and storehouses for trade goods. The reasons are that the structure is very similar to ancient clay drawings of Chinese market; there used to be a big river nearby which a boat, an important means for transportation, could travel; and this whole area was completely surrounded with moats.

今日はライトアップの日で、土日のみ行なっている。せっかくなので見ていく事にした。懸念された雨もあがったので見れそうだ。係りの人が地面にロウソクの入った色とりどりの小袋を置いて火をつけ始めた。トラック屋台も店を開け準備を始めている。5時からなのだが、まだ薄暗く、あと半時間は待たないとイルミネーションがはっきりと見えない。しばらく待ち、本番となった。福岡街中のビルの谷間のイルミネーションとは違い、手作りで地味だが趣のある暖かい感じがする。

今日は結局まる1日ここで過ごした。これでも集落地区以外は見ていない。入場券の自動販売機に2日券があったのが頷ける。もう7時近くになってしまった。昨日と同じ宿がある太宰府まで歩道をゆっくりと走って帰る。
